When we think of unique and interesting cats, “brown” is probably not what comes to mind. However, while some brown can commonly be in layers of cat, the brown coat is really very rare.
In the feline world, brown tones and patterns are divided into two categories: common and rare. The brown tied coat, for example, is extremely common. Cats with a solid brown coat? Well, that’s a completely different story.
The only brown cat: Know Havana Brown
The most rare of all cats with a brown coat is Havana Brown. This is the only breed of cats that comes exclusively in brown. In fact, except for those beautiful green eyes, this race is completely brown: fur, nose, leg pads, even mustaches.

Havana’s cat developed in England during the 1950s, where fans crossed Siamese cats with black cats in search of a cat with a solid and rich brown color. Over time, reproduction efforts focused on retaining the brown color while eliminating the pointed Siamese coat. The name refers to the rich brown color that is a registered trademark of Cuban cigarettes. Although it is still quite rare, the race has gained popularity outside of England and can be found throughout the United States and Europe.
Other races of popular brown cats
Some cat races come in a complete brown coat option. The Burmese It was developed in Southeast Asia in the country now known as Myanmar and is a surprisingly beautiful cat that can be brown. The coat is traditionally solid, being the most common saber: a rich and dark brown tone, although they also come in other colors, such as champagne, blue and platinum. Brown print coats
There are also several different patterns of brown fur in cats. Let’s look at some. The marked tabby It is one of the most common fur patterns that are among domestic cats and sometimes it is also known as classic tigrado. It appears in many tones of brown, ranging from a clear tan to a deep chocolate. Individual hairs go with these variable colors, and the effect is a mottled or salty appearance and pepper. There are no stripes or points clearly defined in this layer pattern.

The stained stained It is another striking variation. Cats with this coat have an exotic appearance, characterized by circular marks throughout the body. The spots can vary in size and shape and can appear on the back, the sides, the leg and, sometimes, in the face and tail. As with the other featuring patterns, this layer comes in a wide variety of colors and tones, including brown.

The following is the Tortoiseshell Patron, or “tortie”, as the devotees mentions. This beautiful pattern is like a mosaic with two different colors, most typically black or dark brown or orange. When mixed, they form unique marble patterns. The appearance of Torto pellets varies significantly from cat to cat.

Some races, especially the Siamese and the Balineses, have a distinctive fur pattern where the fur in their limbs (ears, face, legs and tail) seems darker than the rest of their bodies. This is known as a pointed pattern and, often, these darker areas appear in tones of brown, ranging from clear caramel to rich chocolate. As you can see, many cats show a brown fur pattern, come in a brown tone or, in one case, come exclusively in brown. On the other hand, many cat races do not come in a brown coat. These include Bombay, Russian Blue, Burmilla and Chartreux. The brown cat is anything but average. With so many warm variants, tones and patterns, there are more than it seems, and much to love, about each of these cats.
