Coat changes
If the fur of his Gatito de Maine Coon seems different every month, there is a reason! The kittens are born with a soft and spongy coat that is about keeping them hot. But about 4 to 6 months, things begin to change.
That iconic coonie coat, with its silky texture, thick ruff and glorious tail plume, develops gradually. For many, it does not finish growing up to 2 years (or later!).
I might even think that your kitten is changing color. And in a way, they are: the densest subcaceses and exposure to seasonal light can make the fur look darker or lighter, or get new nuances that did not notice before.
Those silver dramatic, smoke or shaded coats? They often begin to look simple until the longest outer layer arrives and reveals the contrast. The transformation can be impressive.
