The amazing results of my cat window perch experiment

on

I have been trying to find new ways to help my cat remain comfortable recently, largely because at fifteen Oscar now has some arthritis in his hips, and I want him to relax completely. It still jumps and limit throughout the place, so fortunately a window hanger was not an unreasonable question.

He has always loved to look out the window, but he is doing it less lately and I suspect that it is because the hard window is not the most comfortable place to sit.

Some initial concerns

In the past I have been reluctant to try picos of cat windows because I felt that they could not be very safe just being retained by suction cups. However, my friend Sarah’s article convinced me that my concerns in that regard were probably not founded.

So I configured two very different designs, and I have to tell you that I was very surprised how much the quality, appearance and honestly my perception of their safety varied. Not to mention how easy they were to configure!

I have added affiliate links to both where I described them below. If you click to buy, you will not pay any extra, but a small part of the income will go to support this site. However, as you will see, I prefer another.

Don’t make my mistake

Before immersing myself in the two options that Oscar has been testing, I must warn you that I made a pretty silly mistake when ordering them. I did not think about its size. Not for a second, until I tried to join the first to the window of my living room …

It was approximately half of the window width wider than the space in which I wanted to suck it!

I suppose I had assumed that they were a standard narrow window size for some reason, which is not the case. The windows that you will see in the photo as joined in my house are in my greenhouse, and are literally the only windows in which one of them turned out to fit. UPS!

Hanger adjustment

I had a little more problems to fit a mischief than the other, as I will share in a moment, but none was too problematic once I found a window that was adjusted, despite the fairly vague instructions.

However, almost as soon as they got up, I had a clear favorite, and also Oscar did, and they were not the same!

Catismo window perch

Although the instructions were not very clear for this hanger, it seemed very easy for me to assemble, since you could see how the pieces were placed only depending on the images of the box.

The finished hanger is really beautiful and surprisingly subtle for a quite large cat kit! It is, with much, my favorite in terms of appearance and quality, but Oscar has been quite reluctant to spend time in this. It seems that he feels less safe when he is in that, and he has not shown any sign of curling there.

One of the fools has also taken off several times since I put it, but if I am sincere, I had not cleaned the window as well as the instructions asked me, so I probably should not sustain it against him!

Spongy window round

This shelf was a bit complicated to assemble and the instructions were not terribly clear, and that comes from me, an addict to flat and confused foods. I solved it quite quickly, but if you are not familiar to build things yourself, then you may want to breathe deeply and calm before starting.

I loved the texture of the bed section, but contrasts with the publications that support it, so I am not a great admirer of its general appearance.

This was Oscar’s favorite, with him spending time kneading the fabric and obviously enjoying the extra soft surface.

Pros

  • I was awake since I installed it a month ago
  • Very soft bed

Cons

  • Is not so subtle in style
  • More difficult to assemble

Should you buy your cat a window hanger?

I know that many cats love the perch of the windows, but after almost two months of access to these, my cat has rarely used them. And I have even tried to bribe him there with his favorite treats!

This could be due to the fact that jumping is more a fight for him these days than I had noticed, and it is something that I will be chatting with his veterinarian, but it is also possibly because he is simply not interested in perching!

I would say that if your cat loves to look out the window, then it is worth trying, or if you do not mind spending some money on a clearance and not a safe thing with the hope of achieving greater happiness of the kitten.
