Ohio’s kitties – How are you doing now?

That was the situation in which Ohio 12 first entered BCR after being collected and expelled by Sam and Alyson in record time. Why the speed? When BCR learned that these cats should be sacrificed after enduring so much, she and Alyson had to do something. Then they quickly made arrangements to bring these cats to BCR security.
When they arrived for the first time (And you can see that video here), The cats, despite being well fed and updated in shots, were neglected, had dirty ears, nails without collection and, more disturbing, they were all anemic and had infections and/ or upper urinary infections. We also had to treat them all for a severe gastric infection. They all needed their cleaned teeth and several needed important dental work. Terra and Aza had dental problems so serious that it impacted their ability to eat health; Terra had not been sterilized.
It was not only his health that was a problem. The biggest challenge would be to win your trust quickly. This had to be overcome immediately because cats needed baths, shaving and medicines immediately. A couple of cats, like Abbey Road, already arrived friendly, but most distrusted these new strangers. We did not want those necessary actions to traumatize them more.
That was then, how are you doing now?
The change began immediately when the boxes opened for the first time in BCR: they began to relax in real time and feel comfortable enough to start playing in the beds of gatera grass and verify everything. Best of all, most allowed six strangers to caress them as they had met us for years. What relief!
Today, the kittens are doing very well! Their respiratory problems have been solved and receives regular grooming and brushing, which is fundamental for longer -haired cats such as Sultan and Porcini! Aza, Terra and Sultan had the longest return to good health. Terra continues to improve and we hope they take off your eye soon. However, AZA has made the greatest general trip, from being traumatized and hiding until they accept love and feel safe enough to snorch and do cookies when it attracts attention.
What have we learned in the almost six months that have been in BCR? Here are some things that you can look for if you look at them in our cameras live 24 hours!
Abbey Road – She is a polydactyl that loves to greet people at her door and loves everyone she knows.
No – She has traveled a long way. She has the softer snoring that is very healing and loves to make cookies.
Bennington – It is one of our two -wheeled runners and a very talkative child
Corduroy – He keeps all alert, literally, everything is a toy for him, especially mops! Keep everyone In your room asset!
Seal – She is still our most shy cat, but the road to her heart is preparing it. You have to keep your diva state!
Nantucket – I have itYou see to use the cat wheel as a hammock and love to look outside.
Rexie – She is the head of the room 1 and loves to play.
Mr. P. – He loves the outdoors, but he also likes to look through his inner window. It has relaxed a lot compared to when it arrived and has much more confidence.
PORCINI – He loves that he rubs his belly and, although he is very majestic, it is a giant nonsense.
Schnapps – It is a very cold guy who is the glue in his room, since he is the only cat that gets along with everyone.
Sultan – We thought we would need to invest a lot of time to become familiar with the rest of the cats, since we heard that he was in a cage only due to his alpha-masculine mentality. Fortunately, all that is wrong and he is a friend of the children, it can often find himself snuggled with other cats.
Terra – This sweet little girl is really a fighter. He did not like the other cats when he arrived, but now he is going very well with the kittens of room 3. More than anything, he loves finding a return to sit!
You may wonder what Ohio’s kittens with the BCR mission has. All.
All are blind, IVF or positive leukemia (or combinations of those things). They were supposedly in a place where they had a second chance in life, but without their own fault, suddenly they faced euthanasia. Our mission is to offer these cats and others like them compassion, dedication and love in a home forever. Its history represents exactly what BCR is about and who we are as a community of people who love animals and are dedicated to the care of those who will not have the opportunity to be adopted or need special attention.
Ohio’s kitties have already met more than one hundred people since their arrival and each of their stories teaches a somewhat new visitor, whether the cat scared in the shelter only needs extra time and a different environment to open, or how important they are of animals to sterilize and castrate the animals to prevent the propagation of IVF and Leukemia, and how infections by unrelated eyes are damaged! They also teach everyone who are worthy of love and have the opportunity to be loved
Each of these cats is an example of resilience, and seeing them develop their own personalities every day is a blessing that we will never take for granted. We thank you for making it possible by supporting BCR and sponsoring these wonderful cats.

When is it safe to let a kitten wander around the house?

It is tempting to let a kitten freely explore immediately, but too much space can cause accidents, anxiety or even injuries.
Most kittens begin with a small kitte -proof room. From there, you can gradually expand your world as they grow. The habits of the sand box, confidence and general conscience improve between 4 and 6 months of age, but each kitten is different.
Cat behavior experts often recommend a Slow expansion strategy – Not only for security, but to help kittens feel safe. A advice that we loved: if your kitten hides or stops using a favorite place after getting more access, it could mean that the new space is too overwhelming.
Is it also worth pointing? Maine Coans grows more slowly than most races. That adorable fluff ball could still be acting like a baby until well admitted in its second year. Give them limits from the beginning helps shape a quiet and safe behavior for life.
🐾 In the Coonie clan today, we are immersing ourselves in milestones, trim tips and expert knowledge of the feline behaviorist to establish their kitten for a safe freedom, also, sharing when our own coons trusted themselves in the full house!

Mixture of wet and dry foods for delicate felines – North Toronto cat rescue

By Nomi Berger
Does your favorite cat give dry food a “legs” a day and a “back down” to the next?
If so, in particular the major cats, consider making meals more pleasant constantly mixing foods of wet and dry cats. Unlike adding a Topper, which is often used to increase certain nutrients or to help cats to gain weight, combine wet and dry foods increases palatability and improves the appetite of a cat.
Because most cats rarely drink enough water in one day, this can cause dehydration, which, in turn, can cause health problems, including urinary and/or renal tract problems. Wet food can help correct this. Studies have shown that wet canned foods are generally composed of 75 percent of water and semi-rged canned foods are made up of 35 percent water. On the contrary, dry cat food is made up of a single 10 – 12 percent of water. Therefore, adding wet foods to your cat’s current food greatly increases your daily water intake.
Highly tasty for most delicate felines, canned wet food has fabulously fragrant meat combined with tempting and tasty ingredients, as well as canned tuna for humans of the grocery store. And given the abundance of water that contains wet food, cats will feel more full faster. Not to mention how much it helps them handle their weight, since they are consuming fewer general calories.
The only inconveniences: wet food is more expensive than dry food and is more difficult to store once the can have been opened.
On the other hand, dry cat food is similar to dry dog food, since several ingredients are combined, extruded, cooked and then dry in pieces of bite size or small pieces of croquettes. One of the main advantages of Dry Food is the price: it is usually less expensive by ounce than wet foods, however, depending on the brand it bought.
Dry foods, with its crispy croquette, especially some brands prescribed in veterinarian, are specifically formulated to support the dental health of cats by helping to clean their teeth and reduce the accumulation of tartar and plaque. That said, these specially formulated brands should never replace regular teeth and professional teeth and dental checks.
Dry food is also easy to store and lasts more than wet food once it has been opened, so it is ideal to put aside during the day for cats that prefer to graze.
The combination of wet and dry foods offers cat owners the best of both worlds: hydration and taste of wet foods along with dental benefits and dry food cost savings. However, the key to success is to find the correct relationship of wet foods for your own feline friend.
The “general rule”: combines 70% of dry foods with 30% wet foods, although very humid foods may require a proportion of 75% dry and 25% humid. The ideal relationship can also depend on the needs of your own cat. Older cats, for example, may require extra wet foods to keep them hydrated and attract them to eat. But, to err by caution, it is always better to follow the advice of its veterinarian. Then, begin to make a slow transition to the dry/wet combination.
Start by adding a lower amount of humid foods to the usual dry foods of your cat and allow several days to get used to the combination and avoid any possible stomach discomfort. Then, during the next week, add more wet foods to dry food until you reach your objective relationship.
And, lease of the leg, always remember that patience is worth it!
