Being a dog father comes with his set of challenges: you must raise and train a life that does not speak the same language as you! There are so many philosophies and training tips for dogs as dog reasons on this planet, so navigating everything can be quite confusing. What can help relieve this confusion is an author who uses real science to support his technique, process of thought and education.
Annie Grossman’s How to train your dog with love + science It is not his typical dog training: it is a complete philosophy that uses behavior science to help shape his puppy in the perfect canine citizen, and can even help him, as a human, shape his own life. Our experience

I can tell you immediately, I am not an expert in dogs even though I have had dogs all my life. My current dog, Lorelei, is the first dog that is completely mine, and I am raising it on my own. It has been a long way in the last eight years. When he came from the local animal shelter, I had to deal with all his peculiarities and jokes in the best way he knew. Desire How to train your dog with love + science It was something that I had found at that time because I feel that I would have helped greatly.
While I waited for the physical book to arrive, I enjoyed listening to the audiobook version in my Amazon account (through Audible), very well narrated by Eunice Wong. I wasn’t sure what to expect, in part I thought this would be a step by step instruction … Chico, I was wrong! I discovered that this book is actually much more beneficial than one step one, two and three because the author, Annie Grossman, explains how her dog thought To you. Finding a better way to understand and communicate with Fido leads not only to better training, but also to a better relationship in general.
The many real life examples were so identifiable to me, especially in the introductory section where they talk about some of the ways in which people behave with dogs. Many of his examples reminded me of how my parents would try to discipline or train my childhood dog, and was quite revealing. Once the book continued to dissect several training methodologies, it was absolutely hooked.
All the explanations were very easy to follow, and I certainly did not feel that the author wrote “on my head” in any capacity. It really seemed that we were having an informal conversation between friends, sharing life experiences and the lessons that arose from them. There are so many fun and ingenious lines that make this reading even more attractive, especially in a topic that, if done differently, can often be considered boring.
The third part was very focused on things at home to try, and although I have had my puppy for so many years, it was still fun to give these lessons a chance. No matter your dog’s age, you can both He still learns something new.
The physical book itself, once it arrived, was so beautiful: the digital cover does not do justice to the real cover! I really appreciated the beautiful cartoon dogs throughout the book, describing certain instances and expressing ideas. Everything was very well organized and designed, and I really enjoy having a physical copy to make reference instead of only an audiobook.
10/10, absolutely bright!

Key features

Scientifically solid approach to dog training
Annie Grossman focuses on the science of canine (and human) behavior, how our puppies listen and understand, and their natural behaviors that we need to learn. In the first half of the book, Annie Grossman immerses himself in a series of common dog training methodologies and why they No Work (or at least, their aspects that are a bit defective). It is important to discern why some methods are apparently effective, but they really are not, why certain ideas are considered outdated and how to change their approach is equal to a beneficial response. The main concept is to ensure that your training does not leave your puppy with side effects.
By understanding how your dog communicates and responds, you can effectively change your behavior, encouraging them to be a bit different! This leads to success both on human sides and in the dog of the equation.
Empathic and attractive reading
This is not a dog training book step by step. How to train your dog with love + science It is a philosophy, which is the best way to describe it! The author shares many examples and stories about her life to express the point of each lesson and idea.
I found his writing as very empathic, since I could relate to a lot. Interpreted and interesting with pieces of humor, and a pleasant general reading! Many dog training books (especially those focused on methodology) are quite dry, but this is definitely not. With quotes as “We humans can think of ourselves as a reasonable group, but we surely do nut things when it comes to dogs.“How can you have fun?
Good selection of basic exercises
I feel that the objective of this book is to establish the bases for effective dog training, and there are enough basic exercises sprayed throughout the development of that base. The exercises are easy to follow, easy to do and very beneficial, regardless of your dog’s age! It is true that these exercises tend to be hidden in the text, but the context helps develop the approach, so it is worth reading them.
